4-step compliance teaching
For this teaching you will need: a bell, or clicker; a favorite
food reinforcement; a transition object if your child has a
preferred toy; a food timer.
This must be done at the same time every day (example- after
your child comes home from school, after naptime, after dinner).
If your child physically resists change, you may want to pick a
time when you have help so two people can help transition the
child.
Pick a quiet time, follow-through, and be consistent. Once you
begin the teaching it has to be presented every day until the
criteria has been met. If after seven days your child has not
moved to step 2, take a break and stop training for a while. You
can always visit us again at a later time.
Ready? Click on step 1 at the top of the screen to begin. |

PALS is like no other educational software on the market
... |
Teachers regular Education
NO ADULT SUPERVISION NEEDED:
PALS was designed to be used independently on the
classroom computer. Once the student learns the program they
can easily proceed through the lessons. There is a built-in
timer for teacher convenience (you can set it for the number
of minutes you want the student to work), and an inactivity
buzzer that sounds at whatever number of minutes you set if
the child’s mind (or body) is somewhere else.
INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION:
PALS provides research-based instruction for the exact
skills which your students need. If a student is unable to
perform with the class during a particular time of the
school day, have them go on the PALS program. This will
eliminate frustration for the child and provide the child
with important, individualized learning. It’s like having a
tutor in the classroom, and will help each child meet
curriculum standards.
EASY TO USE:
PALS is easy to use in the classroom. Just set up a schedule
for those students using the program, and have it by the
computer. Each child can bring up their own program and work
until the timer goes off.
REPORTS:
You can print off a report of individual sessions, or
ongoing progress from the beginning of the program. That way
you know what the student has been doing without having to
be there. The reports are also great for parent conferences
to document ongoing progress.
ASSESSMENT:
You can evaluate an unlimited number of students using
our standard or individualized assessment. This will give
you detailed information on your student’s academic skills,
which can be used to determine the starting lessons on PALS
as well as for classroom planning. |

NO ADULT SUPERVISION NEEDED FOR STUDENTS WHO CAN USE A
COMPUTER MOUSE:
If the student does not use a mouse, an adult can assist, or
use a touch screen.
IEP GOALS:
PALS makes IEP goals easy to meet since the program
provides individualized tutoring for each student’s IEP
goals. Students can use PALS on the computer and never leave
the classroom.
ASSESSMENTS:
PALS offers an unlimited number of student assessments to
establish the student’s current levels of achievement and
document academic progress for classroom teaching.
BUILT-IN TIMER AND INACTIVITY BUZZER:
For teacher convenience there is a timer so you can
decide how long you want the sessions, and an inactivity
buzzer that sounds if the student’s mind (or body) is
somewhere else.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
If your student is unable to use a mouse, you can have
an adult sit with them and click on the picture which they
point to or put their hand on. Note: don’t click on the
correct response if they choose an incorrect response. Allow
them to experience the consequence of the incorrect response
(no reward, blank screen, and the item again presented with
the correct response blinking), as this is an important part
of the teaching process.
MOUSE GAMES:
It is important that the child learn computer skills as
soon as they are able. Intermittently try the Mouse Games,
which teach the child to use the computer mouse.
TEACCH AND PECS:
PALS can be used in addition to any other program such
as TEACCH and PECS, and is broad-based enough to provide a
complete pre-academic and academic curriculum in the
classroom.
COMPLIANCE TEACHING:
If your student does not like to sit, go to the
Compliance Teaching link on this page. |
